Planning on moving to denver....young and want to be near downtown (Colorado Springs: apartment)

Call it ignorance, but I need some help and advice. I grew up in the Pueblo area most of my life and moved to Greeley for school. I just graduated from UNC and plan to go into the nonprofit area of work. Most of those jobs are downtown......so i want to be in the downtown area.

Here's the question, where a good location to move? I've only really been to Denver for Rockies games/visiting family in Arvada/concerts (bluebird,ogden,ect) and I really don't know much about where to live there. I'm 23 and still enjoy the bar/social scene and I'm just searching around. I can spend up to about $750 a month and I will be living by myself. I really liked living around UNC campus and would prefer to still live around the college crowd. I'm not to worried about crime (i grew up in a ****ty part of Pueblo) but I want to live somewhere relatively safe.

I have to make a decision between Denver and Colorado Springs and the Springs seems more limited when it comes to the type of work that I want to do. Plus I want to live somewhere where there's something always to do.

Any ideas? Anything I should think of narrow the selections?

LoDo (Lower Downtown) and Capitol Hill are popular choices. However, I do not think you will be able to get anything there for $750. Perhaps others know the prices in that area better than me and can add more info.

If you like living in a college area, try the area around DU. My DD has a nice place in that area for $650, 2BR. It is about a ten min. drive to downtown from there.

You can get a studio (or possibly at 1br) in Capitol Hill in the $450-$550 range. I tend to recommend Capitol Hill for those looking to be close to downtown. It's really one of the few places that you could really just walk to everything, and not even need a car, and rent there can be quite cheap (or quite expensive, depending on your tastes). It's urban, and you need some street smarts there, but it's pretty safe, particularly compared to many other big cities.

yea one of my friends lived in Capitol Hill, had his jeep broken into a few times but that was about it. I think I may check out the DU area and see what I can find.

That seems to be common. A friend of mine had his Acura stolen from right outside his door only a few days after he moved into his Capitol Hill apartment.

DU is a nice area and you'd have lightrail access.
