Exactly. Very true. I used to live in the Yavapai county by the way, particularly Prescott.

I love the sun in the mornings here. It lasts well into the afternoon most days and then the clouds come in and it tends to cool down. It also makes for great sunsets. Fall has the best blue skies of the year.

I just got back from Prescott Valley and there was only one day where it got cloudy and rainy. Very pleasant.

Denver is the 4th sunniest large city in the US and one of only 5 out of 21 to have >3000 hrs of sunshine annually.

Yes, we see that, but that does not mean the sky is clear during those hours.

Then how would you define it?

Several different sources have been presented.

So that doesn't count?

No it does not count. This thread has absolutely nothing to do with how much sunshine Denver gets. I has to do with how often Denver experiences clear skies. Reread the title of the thread.

You seem to not understand that it can't be sunny if there is heavy cloud cover, and that the more sunshine, the fewer clouds.

I wouldn't say there's a lot of completely clear days, even though they may be sunny, even mostly sunny. Sunny is not mutually exclusive with clouds. Even beautiful sunny all day, days, often still have puffy cumulous clouds or some wispy high level thin clouds or even a lenticular cloud or two. On rare occasions I've seen iridescent mountain clouds on sunny days. It's rare to have days without any clouds in the sky at all & as others have mentioned, we often have afternoon t-storms. Most often on sunny days, it's the high, thin, wispy clouds that we have.

That's not about the amount of sunshine we get, as the day can still be 90% sunny, even 100% sunny, but there are still clouds in the sky on sunny days. The clouds to me, provide interest, esp at sunrise & sunset. Without the clouds, sunrise/sunset can be pretty boring here (or anywhere for that matter).

Unless the clear skies are happening at night time, clear skies = sunshine.
