One thing that has been getting to me lately are the amount of people who don't put their dogs on leashes in public spaces. In my apartment complex but also in parks - seriously, what is wrong with these people? Do they assume their dog is so obedient to not attack or freak out someone or get run over by a car?

Also I find it weird how when a dog runs away the owner walks and doesn't run to catch the dog - total aloofness.
I do a lot of running on the trails and there have been a bunch of times that dogs start chasing me as I run past them and the owner.

I'll never forget this one time an unleashed dog started running alongside me while the owner kept yelling "hey, can you stop running?!".

If you run after a dog that is running away it will just motivate it to run faster from you even if you are its owner. The best thing is to slowly walk towards it. I have even found as you get closer it is best to get on one knee and try to call it over. That being said I don't let my dogs off leash anywhere but at my home.

That gave me a good laugh. If I was you I would have run even faster to antagonize the owner more.

They have these places called " dog parks " and some have an area to let your dog run around with other dogs and socialize ,
what a concept !

Well that's true, don't show fear and the dog won't chase.

That said, it's the owner(s) that's always to blame. Same type of people that have their dog hog up the sidewalk in favor of pedestrians when you walk past them in the opposite direction.

The situation is not good. About a month ago a dog got hit by a car next to my apartment complex and the cry from the dog was terrifying. I'll never forget that sound.

A lot of dog owners have no freaking clue that they're blocking the sidewalk, or the bike trail, or whatever. Nor do they apparently care. Then pair all of that with headphones.
