Cool!

2-minutes news piece on it: 70-acre movie production campus, 'smart city' development eyed near Parker | 9news.com

Quote:
A company with ties to Hollywood media production seeks to create a high-tech sound stage and film production center to anchor a 70-acre development in northern Douglas County.

The town of Parker and Panasonic’s smart city technologies business are partners in the project.

Redbarre, a 22-year-old Denver company, plans to formally announce the project Friday Aug. 11 at the state capitol in downtown Denver.

The project, located on the north side of the E-470 toll road west of Chambers Road, touts 1.9 million square feet of mixed-use facilities “atop a massive high-speed data campus” with a media production campus at its heart, according to a Redbarre summary.

The site could be home to more than 4,000 jobs after 2020, the company says.

The development plans call for a combination of retail and office space, a boutique hotel plus a film studio backlot with high-tech production facilities, including a 75,000 sound stage, recording studios and an outdoor performance venue, according to a Redbarre document.

“Colorado lacks world-class sound stages. Production teams and film crews will arrive in our state to shoot films, then leave for post-production. For the first time ever, Redbarre will provide the facilities needed for full-scale film production, enabling feature film crews and digital media creators a soup-to-nuts production environment right here in Denver,” Redbarre’s flier said

This is legit. Colorado need more ties to the film production industry.

I couldn't agree more. I work for one of the premium movie channels that is headquartered here. We always love to see news like this.

You'd figure they'd be up there with NC or GA with tax incentives but it really lags behind the coasts for filming. Denver should really have more shooting going on besides just reality TV.

We used to. We even had a department in the state government whose job was to recruit productions to film here. It was slowly overshadowed by the tech industry and then was eliminated when things crashed in the 80s.

Interesting. Well, with the city blowing up maybe it's time to bring it back. With being only 800-900 miles from L.A. and having a better winter climate than NYC, it makes more sense to do shooting here. The film industry literally shuts down in NYC from Jan-March.

Before Hollywood there was Canon City. Many early films were of western themes using local cowboys. The variable weather of Colorado compared to the Los Angeles basis means they all bailed for California around the WW1 period.

Very interesting. Actually The Film Industry really started in New Jersey - when they officially bailed for Hollywood they left NJ with squat. And of course NJ has done a really poor job of keeping history on this since the state is so corrupt and poorly run.
