Hey Denver!

I've had 2 interviews for a job in Lakewood. Browsing through here and Craigslist, it seems like an affordable place to live. But not sure it's the area for me.

Are there any pet friendly weekly rentals, that way I could explore for a few weeks while deciding?

I am 36, no kids, female. I love being able to walk to amenities; restaurants, coffee, grocery, breweries, dive bars, music etc. I'd love a commute under 30 minutes, but I know that is asking for a lot!

My budget would be under $1800/month. Any neighborhood suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

p.s. I live in Louisville, KY, but am from San Diego and Portland mainly. Easy flights from Denver to all 3 places!

I'd suggest you use Air BNB for a weekly rental. Hotels, even extended stay, can get pretty pricey. You might have better luck with a dog too. You should be able to find a nice 1BR for $1800 in a good area of Lakewood or even closer to downtown in an cool area like South Broadway. Depending on where in Lakewood you would be working, it's a pretty short commute.

Airbnb is a great idea! Thanks for your input. I will check out South Broadway too.

For the weekly rentals I think AirBNB/CL/Extended Stay . motel might be your bet.

I live in Belmar, this would fit the vast majority of what you're looking for. Belmar is a designed "downtown" area for Lakewood, and getting to anywhere else in Lakewood would likely be well under 30 minutes. I moved here as a single woman, looking for much of what you are. I've been in Belmar over 4 years, and just signed another year long lease at my apartment building. Belmar is a designed walking community. The majority of the residences are apartments, townhomes, paired homes and condos. From my apartment you can walk for groceries, restaurants, bars (Taco Tuesday Trivia at Rocko's Cantina, yay!), bowling, movies, any type of shopping you might want. No really close breweries for walking, but, this is the Denver Metro, you can probably find about a dozen in a 10 minute drive.

The neighborhood is safe and friendly. I don't worry about running to Target at 8 or 9 at night. I know my neighbors, enough to chat a bit, pet their dogs, etc. I have a daughter who recently started college; while she was in high school, I never worried about her or her friends who would come over to go shopping and hang out in the area.

Most of the apartment complexes in the area will do shorter-term leases, 3 to 6 months, but shorter leases come with higher price points. If you're working in Belmar, you could find a 1-BR or 2-BR apartment in your price at a year long lease (if you want less than a 6 months, you're likely going to have to go with a 1-BR in Belmar). Having a longer lease would allow you to explore the Denver metro area at a leisurely pace, and give yourself an opportunity to really get to know what areas fit best for your wants.
