My wife and I are planning a visit to Denver and the suburbs for 4 days in late October before we plan on moving around the new year. Looking for towns or areas to check out as possible living options. Some details about us. We’re 32 no kids(not sure were gonna ever do the kid thing), love the outdoors, love visiting breweries. We like to spend weekends brewery hopping. My wife loves to run(8-13 mi per day). She is a pharmacist and is in search of jobs now. I work for a large bank that I shouldn’t have much issue to transfer to there. We live in the suburbs of Chicago. We kind of like the idea of northwest Denver to be close to boulder(expensive) but not live in boulder, Longmont, and red rocks. We would like to be within 45 minutes of the airport (because we like to travel), stadiums, downtown area for day trips. We like areas that have cute/small downtowns that have restaurants and shops to walk around at night time as my wife would put it.

Any suggestions would be great for towns or locations to check out would be great. We’re looking to rent for a year at around $1800/month than hopefully buy something under 1200-1500 sq feet for around or less than 300k.

Thanks

We could give you all sorts of suggestions of places that we like to "walk around at night", but it won't do you much good until you know where the jobs are going to be. The Denver metro area is very spread out, and the common recurring theme here is -- live close to where you work.

$300,000 is a very low budget for anything meeting all of your criteria. Are you willing to consider a condo or townhouse?

Yeah we live in a townhome now. We could afford more but don’t want to worry about being house poor. Id rather have a small townhouse and travel than 3000-4000 sq foot and have a 500k mortgage. We’ll both have cars. Was kind of looking at Lafayette, Louisville, superior area or a little closer to Denver.

Your budget doesn't sound realistic for what you want, where you want it.

This is for all homes, not just townhouses, but just for comparison.

Have you found anything you like within your budget there online then?

I was thinking Golden might also be of interest.

Your budget is too low unless you plan to buy and then spend $100K on renovation.

Well ideally renting for a year or so. We will be buying at some point. Probably have to bump our budget up a little bit but when we're paying $8200 in property taxes on a 2000 sq ft $200k town home we're ready to move and try something different.

Was just hoping to get some suggestions on places to put in consideration for our 4 day visit in October. I know job location is going to be huge but if we have an idea where we want to live that's where we'd look first for jobs.

We plan on checking out golden too. We just don't have a ton of time to get a good feel for a bunch of towns.

The typical property taxes in greater Denver are 0.7% of market value.
That would be $2100 on a $300K house.

Yeah quite a bit lower which is nice. Illinois is falling apart financially.
