We thought of relocating to Denver a few years ago but we never went through with it. Due to some changes we are revisiting this option and I was wondering how the IT market looks like in Denver area.

I am a Lead developer in Chicago area, hoping to switch to a manager position. I am currently making ~$150.000/year. Is that a far fetched salary for a lead/manager position in Denver? Do I have any chance of finding a position before I actually move there?

Husband is entry level IT career, although he finished school 15 years ago. It's hard for him to find a position here as everybody is looking to match age and experience. Does he have any chance of finding a starting position there?

I think that's a little high for Denver, but COL is lower as is Colorado's income tax structure. So you clear a lot more in your paycheck compared to Illinois, I would think.

Dev jobs in Denver I think are over 100K but 150K is more like NYC wages. They are also hard to come by so you never know. I know my company is desperate to get Dev's locally.

I'm showing Colorado Income tax at 4.63%. Illinois is 4.95% (Recently increased from 3.75%).

I agree that the salaries are little lower in Denver vs. Chicago, but CoL is pretty much the same. Housing here in the Chicago burbs is actually cheaper than similar Denver burbs.

OP, Job Search | Indeed is your friend! There's a salary tool at the top where you can compare positions in different cities.

Really?? I always thought Illinois taxes were crazy high. Maybe I'm thinking of some other tax?

Property taxes are high, at least in Naperville are. Somewhere around 2 to 3 %...

Property taxes are higher, but housing is a little less so it's pretty close overall. This calc says Denver CoL is 5% less. Said OP would need to make $141K in Denver to maintain the same lifestyle as $150K in Chicago.

You think that's bad, trying living in Northern NJ - they're like around 15% in some areas.
