I've been reading a lot about Aurora and the crime statistics show that there's a lot of violence that takes place in Aurora. People have also referred to Aurora in a negative matter due to all of the crime that takes place. Is Aurora a safe place to live in? Are there any places one should avoid?

Well it depends on which part of Aurora you're talking about. Aurora is actually a really big city and it really is like two different cities. I say this every time a similar questions comes up, but you have to think of North Aurora as being the city while the Southern portion is like a suburb of that city. The North is a bit more rough, older and is mainly the part of the city people refer to when talking about crime. The further South you go the more safe (generally). The Southern portion is more suburb-like, newer, and crime isn't much of an issue. There are some of the best schools in the state and a very family oriented environment.

Maybe 10% of Aurora is "don't go there" sketchy (Northwest Aurora), and another 15% is transitional (along and adjacent to I-225 between Colfax and Parker Road). The rest varies from lower-middle-class to upper-class as you go south and east.

The southern part of Aurora has much better schools. Cherry Creek School District > Aurora Public Schools.

Southeast Aurora also sits on Smoky Hill Ridge and at its highest point is about 800-900 feet above Downtown Denver.

It's cause I look at the crime data and Aurora has high numbers when it comes to the statistics and it kind of shocks me cause Aurora seemed pretty peaceful and family friendly; I never really imagined it to be a dangerous city.

there is no Colorado or national standard for crime statistics to be reported. Furthermore citizens may not report it them selves.

Parts of Aurora are dangerous.

Aurora is the third largest city in Colorado by population and encompasses 155 square miles of space. It was home to the largest military presence in NorCo and the Air Force is still the largest employer in the city. Aurora has areas that are economically challenged areas as well as more prosperous areas. As such, I'd surmise that the majority of its violence can be limited to specific areas and is probably involving parties who know each other. As such, it should not be too difficult to avoid troubles, but the area will typically be viewed as less desirable because of the cities economic status.

If you are using the ATM in Aurora at 3 AM in the morning you might experience crime and there is never a good reason to be using the ATM at 3 AM.

Aurora is a big place... The vast majority of Aurora is extremely safe. There are a few areas that are less safe.

Aurora is 150 sq miles.
You need to be more granular.
