Friend considering relocating from Oakland to Denver and looking for input on 3 criteria (Boulder: sales, find a job)

Hi,

I’m posting for a friend who is not on the forum. She is relocating from Oakland and is strongly considering Denver. We’d love to get your input on her top 3 criteria. I've searched around on the forum but don't see info on these areas.

Criteria:

1-Culture: Museums, Art, Artistic People, Books, University

2-Fashion: Clothing/Boutiques/Retail (she works for clothing boutiques and would need to find a job)

3-Nature: Scenery, Birds

For 1 and 3, Denver has plenty. For 2 I legitimately have no idea, sorry

Regarding #2, yes, but it's limited. Getting "dressed up" in Denver usually means jeans instead of leggings and wearing a sweater instead of fleece. There are some in Highland and Cherry Creek North, but unlike some high-end boutiques elsewhere in the country, these are low-pressure, which leads me to believe the sales staff do not operate on commission. In the absence of commission-based income, living in denver on a $15 salary would be tough. (Lulu Lemon does operate on commission -- although I don't know that that qualifies as "fashion".)

She might also consider Boulder - there are some cute boutiques there.

There are boutiques in RiNo, Baker, Capitol Hill and LoDo, as well..and a couple in Stapleton (Semplice, one or two in Stanley Marketplace).

I think getting "dressed up" in Denver is largely as described here but also depends on one's milieu. Quite a few people spend a fortune on clothing and Denver's climate is perfect for four-season shopping. The young ladies in my neighborhood are always sporting cashmere from Souchi in Aspen and the like. The hipster crowd also looks highly fashion conscious, no different from any other large city I suppose.

what does number 2 really mean? Yes, there are boutiques and clothing stores and of course people have to wear clothes. But Denver is definitely not fashion forward. If she just needs a retail job selling clothing, then of course those exist. But if that's not what you mean, I'm not really sure what you are asking for.

Thanks. I've lived in Denver, and that's my take on it too. She's targeting scenic outdoorsy sporty places, but also hoping for cosmopolitan shopping. I don't know if that's realistic.
