Move to Puerto Rico.
As far as could determine, the law was "if you put the money on the counter, you can buy it".

Actually this was changed in 2016.

I live near the Reunion King Soopers and they opened a very large full liquor department in December.

Right! forgot that was in place. Thanks

To get more than the one license that each chain has been allowed up until now, a grocer is required to purchase the licenses of any liquor stores within a 1,500-foot radius and, if there are not at least two stores in that area, alternately to purchase two licenses of stores within the same licensing jurisdiction, be that a city or a county.

Yep, that rule tricked me as well when I first moved here. Sneaky King Soopers. Explains why every market has a liquor store next door though.

Back in the day, the 18 year olds could drink "near beer", that 3.2% stuff.

When they changed the law to 21, the near beer stayed in the 7-11s.

If I was a liquor store owner, I'd contribute enough to my slimy politicians to keep it that way.

It works!

Here in AZ any store can sell anything.

Here I pay $11.99 for a bottle of my favorite wine at Walgreen's or Kroger or Safeway. We don't have 3.2 beer.
Back in COLO I paid $15.99 for the same brand.....25% more.

There's no reason to keep COLO's archaic alcohol laws which do little more than protect a lot of mom and pop stores who charge higher prices. Why protect these mom and pop's when no one defended all the mom and pop stores that got rolled up by all sorts of big box stores and/or big chains (hardware, books, office supplies, jewelry, grocery, kitchen, gasoline, clothing, etc).

Most vice laws make no real sense. They're the intersection of a small amount of social/civic common sense, puritanism, greed and hysteria. The first factor is fighting from a tiny corner while the others brawl and squeal and cry doom.

Can't get wine in CO grocery stores either, which is backwards and retarded. It's stupid to have to make a separate trip elsewhere. In other states, I got it all together at the same time.

It's been annoying at times for me since I generally only drink craft beer with ABV above 6%, but I can appreciate the rationale that it helps keep local stores in business. There's almost always a liquor store that shares a parking lot with the grocery store, so I've barely been inconvenienced. Rent seeking in favor of the little guy for what's effectively a luxury industry doesn't bother me.

This is why the Lone Tree Costco location now has it. The store on Wadsworth was the one that had the original liquor license before the law changed.
