And just to finish things out, I went to the Comcast store to cancel my service and hand in all the equipment. I made an appointment to try to make it less painful and they still messed it up - ended up checking me in after my time because they were busy helping others, including taking a few minutes to talk to someone who walked up and interrupted just as the Comcast person was starting to help me. So once they finished with that person, I was late and ended up at the back of the queue.

Well, at least I walked out with zero regrets or second guesses about whether leaving was the right move! lol!

A conversation with someone reminded me about this so I figured I'd update - after almost 3 months, I'm happy with my switch. I'm saving money every month and aside from some intermittent weather related outages when there's a bad storm, MUCH better service. I know I'll get annoyed if I loose TV service during a football game, but in general, even the outages haven't been a big deal, they are short lived and I found out I can still watch something recorded during them if I wanted to. And it's only the tv that goes out, not the internet.

The one thing I'm still on the fence about is internet speed - I think we are paying for more than we need, but I haven't downgraded yet. Teenager is very happy and maybe worth some money to keep him that way? lol!

Century Link 1 gig - but I think it was only saving something like $20 per month to go down to 100 mbps, with no options in between the two.

1 gig is WAY faster than you need, even for a kid and gaming.

Right, but I guess my question is whether we are legitimately using more than 100 mbps, though. Since there is nothing in between 100 and 1 gig, I'd be ok with paying $20 more a month for say 200 if we were utilizing that much, which I don't know, maybe we are - besides his gaming, we stream video and music a lot too.

And the other aspect I think about is that this rate is now "set for life" - meaning am I locking into a rate that will be a good deal down the road? Assuming I stick with CL, of course.

100 meg would be more than enough, unless you're streaming to 5 TVs and gaming at the same time.
The bandwidth of audio streaming is negligible.

The 1 gig is like having a Porsche 911s turbo for your daily commute, except your internet speed isn't turning heads :-)

lol!

With the kind of crowd my kid hangs with, it's entirely possible that internet speed is actually a head turning item.
