Today’s Safeway is not the mid-priced chain Coloradans may remember from decades past. Remember that there has been tons of consolidation in the grocery market business over the decades. And what is today now known as “Safeway” is very much a California brand. And that brand expands (and renovated old stores into the new style) as Californians fan out. It seems to me most true Coloradans I know very much prefer Kroger stores now. In the case of my town, that’s City Market. Safeway is much more popular with transplants. Kroger stores seem to stock a lot more local (Colorado origin) merchandise than Safeway too, which a lot of Coloradans seem to really appreciate.

Same here, Safeway is also much cleaner and presentable at least in my neighborhood.

Think Whole Foods. They're still around.

Think Starbucks. That's one I don't understand.

Mostly King Soopers here. The Belcaro location is the closest but the Glendale one is much nicer. We also shop at the Glendale Super Target and the Colorado Blvd Whole Foods. When I lived in West Wash Park I was 3 blocks from Whole Foods. That sucked because it was so convenient.

King Soopers on Holly. The produce guys, in particular, are so friendly and helpful. And the customer service workers up front know me by name. Love that store!

I like both, but the great produce people are at Holly and County Line.

Thanks, I'll pass that on to my family now living down there. Seems like there's a 5 or so mile radius around them with about 20 KS locations, that vary wildly in quality, size, everything.

And Safeway? Far fewer locations, though the safeway with liquor license location's not far away.

Yeah, there are many KS locations, but that one and the one at Orchard are my favorites. Orchard is more upscale, but I think the people are friendlier at the County Line location. If you're also a KS shopper, make sure you load the digital coupons available at the company website onto your KS card. The savings can really add up! And if you or your family are members of any organizations that use KS gift cards as fundraisers, do that, too. Over the years, using reloadable gift cards has funneled a LOT of money to my kids' extracurricular activities.

I have both a Safeway and King Soopers within a mile of home.
Safeway is my preferred supermarket.

I always save more money shopping at Safeway than I do at King Soopers.
And yes, I take great advantage of their "Just for U" app for discounts, gas rewards, etc.
I generally only go to King Soopers when I want prepared sushi.
