Hi all -

Moved to COS a few years ago with hubby and kiddos but my marriage is now over and I’m seeking work in Denver. Some possibilities might be opening up. No family in CO. High conflict separation, so I could use the buffer of distance. Friends and church community has strengthened here in COS but job opportunities are pretty slim. One of my kids just started kindergarten and the other is home with me (preschooler.)

I am very worried about loss of community if I move to Denver, particularly while going through such a rough transition due to the demise of my marriage. But I can’t stay in COS and starve either. Only other option would be going back to the east coast but, there is a pending court case for separation and parental responsibilities here in COS and I can’t leave the state yet. Any encouragement or insights from fellow single custodial parents in Denver? How well can single parents thrive in Denver? I’ll be looking for a strong reformed Christian community there and good school options for my kiddos too.

Thanks in advance for your input!

There are good schools and good communities, but get the job first and go from there. Denver Metro is too big to live opposite of work.

There are plenty of church communities, especially out in the suburbs of Denver. I agree with the comment above, you won't want to be doing a long commute because that will just take away time with your kiddos and put you in the car more. There are a lot of single moms out here in the North communities and they tend to get together a lot. When you have decided where you want to be or where your job will be I would join the Facebook mom groups in that area and start finding likeminded people to build your community back up around you.

I'm a single/sole parent, and like most places, the world is more built for coupled parents than single ones. But esp. as your kids get older, you will find more single parents too. There are various single parent groups through Meet Up, etc. and possibly one that would be local for your area once you move.

I'm not really familiar with what a Reformed Christian church is, so no specific suggestions. But since that is clearly going to be an important component of your life, perhaps you could start trying to make some connections and they might be able to assist you with job hunting, finding a rental, etc. I think most religious communities have lots of people who really like being able to help others.

What field are you looking in?

Thank you for these replies. Makes the thought less daunting. I’m a lawyer.

So am I! Are you on Linked In? I'm not actually looking but I get emails from them on regular basis with what sound like decent openings.

Stay put and find a job. Unless you have sole custody and don’t want ex seeing kids.
