As a recent transplant who can't relate to about 90% of those bullet points, curious what people think about this.

Personally I was getting a bit of a "no true Scotsman" vibe. Though I can't say I disagree.

Meh. It's sour grapes. There's a lot of that amongst the long-timers. They tend to forget (or are too young to remember) that large swaths of Denver were total s**tholes in the late 80s/early 90s. I think Denver's gotten better. I'd rather live here than a backwater like Wyoming, which has changed very little over the last 50 years, and is as good as screwed when their energy reserves dry up.

'Getting Lame'?

and this author (a now exiled transplant) has merit?
I'm just back from San Francisco, and my Lyft driver today was this seemingly dorky white dude. The guy was kinda dorky, but he did listen to good music. I asked him where he was from, and whaddya know...he's from the Denver area. This guy had depth, he had a personality. There's more to him than meets the eye. He is Colorado to the core.

...You don't meet Denver transplants like this. They never break the mold, they are exactly what they appear to be. There is no hidden anything. They are basic!!

...we also have some of the loosest gun laws in the country.

I'm sure Horace Greeley's generation had similar feelings ... (rightfully so...)

And anywhere he moves will be announced as lame by the people who lived there 20 years ago.

This sounds just like an episode of Portlandia.

I did live here about 10 years ago for undergrad and I think it was more polite and a little less crowded then. Downtown was a little less hipster. So I kinda see where he's coming from. But I think a lot of people make it out to be more of a drastic change than it really is.

As in so many threads, the attitude of the complainers is that only their home/college/whatever town has gone down in quality. No other city in American has gained population, built over too much formerly open land, had the schools go downhill and had real industry leave... or something.
