Hi all, I'm moving to Denver in July (coming from California), and am trying to figure out which neighborhood would be best for me. After a recent visit, I've narrowed things down to Rino and Lohi, but am looking for any other advice or feedback about what it's like to actually live in these neighborhoods.

I'm a single mid-30s female coming from a dense city environment, so walking proximity to restaurants/cafes/boutiques is a must. I'd like to feel reasonably safe walking around on my own at night, and unfortunately haven't had much ability to test this out in person in either neighborhood. I'm over the party scene at this point in my life (and I actually do not drink alcohol for health-related reasons), so I'm looking to avoid the drunken mid-20s frat scene if I can. I know the drinking culture is big in Denver, but hoping I can find my niche? Plus I don't mind hanging out at bars, I just won't be the one drinking and getting buzzed.

I'm also not white, and ideally I can find an area where I won't feel quite so out of place? Not sure how these two neighborhoods really compare, but I felt like I saw more minorities in Rino when I was last there. But as long as I can find a neighborhood where I feel like a part of the community, where I can meet people and get to know my neighbors and the people who work at the local cafes and shops, I think I'll be happy.

Thanks in advance for any advice, really excited about the upcoming move!

Ah, good question. Work is going to be just north of Civic Center Park, off N. Broadway. I think both neighborhoods should be easy enough to get to the office?

i would contact RTD (303) 299-6000 to figure public transport.
Un likely you will find parking next to your employ but RTD is expensive too.
always a good to setup a plan to avoid driving in snow

denver police maintain neighborhood crime maps on the city web site. I question how accurate of last time they were updated but the data does exist and you could avoid living next to a problematic dance club or bar.

both neighborhoods are nice
so
best of luck in Denver

Rino is smelly. Some people love it. I don't. It's almost turned, but still turning -- aka - unfinished sidewalks, warehouses, construction. Rino has leftovers from when it was considered the "sketchy part of town". The way i see it trending, i'd wanna give it 5 more years.

Lohi is finished. LoHi has less homeless as well. LoHi has more trees. LoHi has more familys -- less bros. LoHi is quite dense full of upper 20s - upper 30s folks.

If you are renting, i'd pick LoHi.

I think only in databases.
Not on signs and postal addresses.
Prove me wrong.

What is your plan in terms of logistics, are you trying to rent something ahead of time, or just to have a better sense of where to look?

Can you try an airbnb for a week or so in each location, and see which one feels right to you?
