It feels like you are against someone doing without a car in the city (and only temporarily at that). No point getting dragged further into your arguing for the sake of arguing.
If you think city size is irrelevant, why the comparisons with other cities such as you have done? I'm saying this is the expectation of a city Denver's size.

I said no such thing.

It's boring to hang out in town every weekend? Might be nice to save several thousand a year by not having a car, so you can live better (like more travel) or retire early.

^^Did I say that? No I did not. But I don't get why someone would want to spend their whole life within the same few blocks of a city.

The op said they might reconsider getting a car in 6 months, not their whole life. A lot of people don’t need or desire getting out of town on the weekends. If the op desires urban living and can live and work near an active bus line or rail line, car free living is very doable. They can also walk, bike and use uber. Car free living does not confine a person to a few blocks of the city by any means.

I share your sentiment. Going car-less is certainly doable, but it’s not for everyone.
Personally it would bore me to tears.

I’ll enjoy city parks and coffee shops when I’m much older, in the meantime I want to get out there.

This is about the OP, not about you or KW or myself. (I would not like either living in the city or going carless, but I can easily see the advantages of both of those lifestyles.) Repeat after me: it is about what the OP wants and is willing to trade off.

I mentioned that I thought it was doable, but thanks for the lecture.
Next time have a coke and a smile.

I was car free in a different city in my early 20s and loved it. I walked and biked everywhere, got a ton of exercise and saw the city through a different lens then I would have if I had been driving everywhere.

I will add, those of us who live here may have a perspective for the OP that s/he hadn't considered. And we don't have a good handle on what the OP's thoughts are.

NOW .... can we get back to what the OP asked about?

Jweb (thank you) gave specific areas where going car-free is doable.

Any other areas?

Any helpful tips?

What areas have frequent bus service?

What areas best for foot traffic or bicycle?
