I just graduated with a BA down in Texas and I'm planning to move to good 'ol Denver in July. Does anyone know a good solid route? I was also interested where two college kids could find a house for rent with a reasonable price. Where are places to definitely avoid looking (i.e. bad neighborhoods)? Where might I find a 2 bedroom house maybe near the community college or any of the Universities? I'm going to be doing most of my hunting online so that when i visit in June I will have appointments lined up, but I don't want to waste my time! Anything suggestions would help!!

One suggestion is to start by browsing the great Denver Index Thread that Mike from back east created. You'll find much of the information you're looking for, and then you can ask more targeted questions.

Craigslist is a good place to start. If you're looking to be by a university, the area around DU (University of Denver) might be a place to check out.

By good solid route, I hope you mean how would you drive there. If that be the case and you're near Dallas, head up 35 and catch I-70 west at Salina Kansas and head west. If you're near Amarillo or San Antonio, you can head up 87 to 287 to Lamar Colorado and continue on up to Kit Carson, then take 40 which becomes I-70 at Limon and west to Denver. If you're way over near El Paso, find I-25 and head north to Denver.

Now, I know of a Community College CCD on the Auraria Campus, which also houses Metro State College at Denver and Colorado University at Denver. It's near Colfax and Speer. To be around here, you might be looking at the Capitol Hill area/Washington Park area. Very urban (for Denver) and diverse; I hear good things about the area lately.

As Tfox says, DU is a very nice area and near Evans and Colorado.

I'm not up on the Denver scene as of late, but back in the day...

For school, DU is expensive. If you are okay with that then check out DU and Washington Park areas. Capitol Hill is close to 3 schools on the Auraria campus. Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State College and the University of Colorado at Denver. Capitol Hill is a mixture of homes and apartments, you should be able to find what you are looking for there. Other areas/neighborhoods to check out would be south City Park, Mayfair, Governor's Park, Alamo Placita, Baker, Uptown, Cheesman Park, Congress Park, Potter Highlands and West Highlands - all a bike ride or short drive (10 minutes) to the campus. Less desirable would be northeast Curtis Park, Westwood, Barnum Park, Commerce City, Montebello, Sun Valley, Athmar and Lincoln Park. Best wishes.
