Alpines?

I wouldn't say cougars and bighorn are exceedingly rare in CO. Wildlife officials estimate both species numbers to be around 7000, the highest of any state.

Mountaineers is too big a word.

So using the gimmick of alliteration that MFBE speaks of and keeping the mountain theme (big laugh at the Doobies, BTW):
Colorado Crampons (too ???)
Colorado Carabiners (too big)
Colorado Carvers
Colorado Cats
Denver Dabs
Denver Dynos
Denver Downhillers (too big)
Denver Daffys (too dumb)

Outside of gimmick of alliteration
Elevation
Altitude
Piton
Spurs (wait, uh, nevermind)
Trekkers
Carvers
Edgers
Fakies
Huckers
Rippers

Thanks for the reply TCHP, I would also say that the bighorn is the animal state of Colorado. I think it would be more logical Denver Bighorns before Denver Gators for example.

Colorado Cougars ??

I’ve always thought Mountaineers would be a good one instead of the Broncos. Highlanders too

That's also the name of the WVU teams.

Denver Peaks might work, it's short, you can see then from Denver, there's a lot of them... the logo could match the state's license plate.

FYI: There's a baseball team in GA called the Savannah Bananas.... cool stuff.

b) What name would you suggest?

Thanks.
a) I like Bighorns or Centennials.
b) Pikas!

It needs to be two syllables to fit into many cheers. At least the ones I remember from my high school and college days. Let's Go, Bron-Cos, Let's Go! Mountaineers doesn't work, but Kumquats does.

How's your Albuquerque thread going, OP?

Once upon a time there was a somewhat pro team called the Denver Gold, after all the gold mining in the state. Others I can think of include:

Rocky Mountain Rockets
In keeping with the Bighorn theme, the Denver Elk, or Colorado Bison
For a winter theme, the Blizzards since Avalanche is taken
Since someone mentioned Prairie Dogs, there's the Black Foot Ferrets.
There's also a great heritage of French trappers, Spanish, and Native Americans in the state if they could be incorporated in a respectful way.
