Denver is not the city to go to bars and pickup chicks. That's way easier in other places.

That said, you CAN do that, and people do. It's just not as popular as a thing.

In the summer, there's afternoon thunderstorms. So people wake up early to get their hiking climbing biking fix in. So they don't stay out as late. I make sure i mountain bike or climb or hike or do something at least 2-3x a week.

I've had so many beautiful girls give me their numbers while hiking 14ers hahaha. it works!!!

How would you compare it to other cities?

When I meet people who move here now, they don’t move here to ski or mountain bike, they seem to move here because like Austin or Seattle at one time, we are now looked at as a “cool” place to live. Being first to legalize pot just added to that appeal.
So I am not sure how you would describe the city.
Washington State and Colorado legalized pot at the exact same time.

Denver is a great place to live and it is the opposite of NYC and LA culture, not as smug as SF or Seattle either... feels more inline with Minneapolis or Phoenix or Austin. People are generally not materialistic here and generally (not while driving) are very nice to each other.

Denver is a liberal sports town that feels like a college campus at times, people love to party and do activities, but educated as well.
People are different but extremely accepting of each other... in my 12 years here I have seen 0 racism (we are a diverse family).
Interesting - never thought of Denver as a party town. I see it more as a chill and drink a microbrew town.

True, but recreational pot sales started in Colorado 7 months before Washington state.

I've also seen no racism, because all I see are white people. Colorado is the whitest damn place I've ever been lol. I want that to change. I think it is changing as denver becomes more approachable to minorities. (i imagine colorado was similar to idaho or wyoming is now, 30 years ago, so give it time to evolve).

I think as long as you enjoy outdoor activities such as mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, skiing, but still really value walkable city amentities, and concerts, you'll love it here. Regardless of how you look. That's really the point of this city.

It used to be - that chill atmosphere is harder to find now. Even the further-out neighborhood breweries are packed with Type A yuppies. Also, places like the formerly-quaint Highland are party zones on the weekend - basic white millenials and expensive cocktails...it's really been quite a transformation.

The stereotype you describe is moreso found in Boise and Albuquerque these days.

I suppose it depends on your perspective. Coming from a smaller city, I can see how your observations would stick out, but for a metro of 3 million, Denver’s nightlife is definitely pretty tame and brewery oriented.

I've never had a girl talk to me on a hiking trail lol. At the trails close to Denver, they all have headphones in, and headphones mean they don't want to talk from my reading. 100% of girls in the gym also have headphones in. I've had a couple guys hike with me and start hitting on me during hikes... lining up with my experiences elsewhere... Generally at the quieter trails I only run into 50 year old guys.

How does a lady go pee on a 14er??? It's all open and there's lots of people around! I would think that would be a deterrent. If I was a lady, I would want to be on the quiet 13er trails to mitigate this.

It depends on what part of Denver you're in. On Federal or down Morrison or out towards Stapleton up in Thornton it's more diverse.
