I understand the underlying premise for this, however, rewriting history sets a dangerous precedent. What's next - changing the name of Washington, DC because ole George was a slave owner?

There was a neighborhood in Denver called swastika acres in Denver. Cherry Creek approved its name change to Old Cherry Creek last year.

I think DC would change its name to Columbia if it ever got the chance to be a state.

Columbia is no good either, since Columbus was a bad man, too, oppressing the natives. There's another move to rename Columbus Park in Denver. And let's not forget every president who pushed westward.

Come now Barry, old George did not LOSE the war HE fought.

If we're going to rename places in the USA, just about everywhere these days would be Pottersville or Hooverville.

Not necessarily. About twenty years ago a Latino comic (maybe George Lopez) shouted down an audience with, "Hey! HEY! If it wasn't for us, you people would have no place names!"

So just say it's named after the feckless former State Treasurer and failed gubernatorial candidate and not his KKK-courting great-grandpa.

Better yet, rename it for Jean Stapleton. Oh wait, she played Archie Bunker's wife. How about Maureen Stapleton? Get her "Cocoon" husband Wilford Brimley to do a ribbon-cutting for the re-branding.
