I'm dating someone who has a job just near the northern point of cherry creek state park.

But we would like to live at Applewood/South Golden/Union Square area since that's where most of my friends live, and it's right by all the good entrances to mtns.... but I'm wondering if the commute to cherry creek state park will turn unmanageable.

No traffic is reasonable and worth it IMO:
straight shot down Highway 6 -> I25. 30 minutes, piece of cake. But I think any more than 30 minutes in the car 1 direction is too much.

Would that be a manageable commute to you guys? Think now, how it's been in the past, and how it may be in the future. Has covid fixed traffic?

Any workarounds you guys might find? Closer into town but still along 6? or should we just go for platte park if traffic is too rough?

To go through the heart of Denver AND the top of DTC would be brutal.

What about the person you are dating? Where are their friends?

You will be commuting to work every day, rain or shine or snow. Hopefully post-COVID traffic will be less than in the past as more people will continue to work from home. But, consider how often you'll be getting together with friends versus the daily commute to work. Is that once or twice a week worth the daily commute hassle?

You could check your favorite mapping program and see traffic conditions during the morning and afternoon rush hours. And, consider that driving to work you'll have the morning sun in your eyes, and driving from work you'll have the afternoon sun in your eyes.

I think it would be better to live in SE Denver and visit with friends on the weekends and after work.

It’s going to be a while til we all have full social lives.

That commute sounds painful. Platte Park would be much more manageable. That would put you in a reasonable commuting distance to both her work and to your friends.
