I've actually never tried Roma's! The one time I went in I chickened out and left. Hard to explain why. But the calzones are good?

I've never heard of Unique Burger, but I never get over that way.

Oh and I just discovered that El Pollo Loco is on Fed. Just one. omg I ate at that place in S. Calif. and actually thought about how I could get some of that chicken back here. And Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles? OMG!!

Does anyone remember Swim Land off of Wadsworth and 38th? Or the plant nursery that sat on the northwest corner of 38th and Wadsworth? Lakeside Mall when it was still an outdoor mall? Eakers on Tennyson, movies at the Oriental and the Federal, the Gold Mine ride at Elitch's, I only remember the Jims Burger Haven on 44th Ave, I know there are more now. El Pollo
Asado on 64th and Wadsworth, when Sheridan Blvd was not paved past I think 80th, when 88th ave was a 2 lane dirt road, now it runs in front of Westminster Mall. Fireflies in North Denver? Car bombs?

I think so. I recall his house was shot at because of irate ticket receivers(word?). And his son got into trouble in his teens. Don't know what happened to either of them, dad or son. There was a article in either the Post/News once about him.

The Oriental....oh yes and the Gothic(?) on Broadway...once a porn theatre. Sitting in the balconies, people passing a bottle of Bourbon around...try that now with total strangers.
Jims Burger Haven I patronized was on Federal, just north of Alameda I believe. Great burgers, but not smart to stand and watch them make them....see the young ladies that worked there all wore "uniforms"...sleeveless blouses. But not all of them, how should I say it....shaved under their arms.....
Car bombs? I remember some restless times around the late 60's early 70's. A close friends father was a Denver Fireman, drove a pumper out of a station near City Park. He had several instances of being pummeled with rock and bricks when pulling up to a fire. They had orders to leave immediatly if that happened regardless of the situation. So they did.
Also, does anyone recall a La Raza or Hispanic activist named Danny Salazar?
Don't know about that end of Sheridan. We lived at the far south end where it ran into BowMar with the little traffic circles. Anyone familiar with than neigborhood will recall it had a very high suicide rate. And the early 60's in Bear Valley, at least 2 if not 3 families were murdered within 2 blocks of each other by the fathers who then committed suicide.
I know, sorry it's grisly but it made a impression on me being a young kid in the neighborhood.
Also, in early 84 when the exwife and I moved to new home in southeast Aurora off Quincy, east of Cherry Creek res. about 2-3 miles or so, there had just been a family murdered in north Aurora area. All the police found was footprints in the snow and a hammer. I think one child survived? Any resolve on that ever? Scared the crap out of us to be out in that area, 2nd resident on the block in a remote area then.
BTW...we lived in a haunted house off Acoma and Iliff from '82-84. Still there according to google map street view.

I don't think they ever solved that murder, and yes, a little child, I believe it was a girl but am not sure, did survive, and went to live with relatives.

I remember scene at the Gothic and Oriental, isn't the Gothic used for the occasional concert now? And the Mayan should still be going strong, it had been nicely refurbished.

Hi BWP! Yes, it has been a concert venue for the last 4 or 5 years now. Saw Hot Tuna a couple years ago there. The Mayan is still going. A great place for a movie. Drb! I remember Bow Mar and those traffic circles.

Going to visit friends in Bow Mar always felt a bit like entering another world, some sort of time warp. I don't know whether it is still like that now though.

BWP-whazzup?? Yep, saw a few other stadium concerts there. Here's one- talking about defunct football leagues! In the early 80's the United States Football League had a franchise in Denver (Denver Gold). One of the gimmicks USFL would do is have a free concert after a football game. I remember watching the Gold playing the L.A. Express (Steve Young was in his rookie season with them) After the game Chicago played a great 2 hour set. Went to a couple Colorado Sunday concerts as well. My favorite Mile High Stadium concert, outside of CSNY, was Pink Floyd in 1988.

Hey Trish, I remember the Gold Mine ride at Elitch's, it ended up being the log ride into water at the end? I like the newer one at Six Flags, because you get really wet, but I miss the old timey ride at Elitch's.

Yep, the Gothic still has lots of shows. They also own Moe's BBQ (formerly Falcon Bowl and before that Sport Bowl Lanes & Billiards) next door with bowling, bbq and live music. It's a really cool place.
