There's no 2nd IKEA, no Micro Center, no Whole Foods north of I-70 AND east of I-25 (Broomfield doesn't count), no proper mall compared to Park Meadows up north.

What can be done to fix it? Complain about it until changes are made. North metro suburbs should reflect the south suburbs, unfortunately they are not well represented compared to the south suburbs, and other people share my opinion.
Make more money.

Compare the per capita income for the southern suburbs with the northern suburbs and you will get your answer.

South Metro Area
Douglas County $42,418 x 286,000 people = $12,131,548,000
Southern Jefferson County $34,714 x 100,000 people (approximate population) = $3,471,400,000
Arapahoe County $31,818 x 572,000 people = $18,199,896,000
Total income for southern suburbs =$33,802,844,000

North Metro Area
Broomfield County $35,836 x 56,000 = $2,006,816,000
Northern Jefferson County $34,714 x 150,000 (approximate population) = $5,207,100,000
Adams County $23,999 x 442,000 = $10,607,558,000
Total income for northern suburbs = $17,821,474

Simply put, the southern suburbs have more people and more money. If I owned a business, I would concentrate my efforts down there too.

FWIW... The northern suburbs got dedicated HOV lanes 10 years before Light Rail was ever built.

Also, the original light rail line (D Line) was built as an experimental line to see if light rail would fly. It used the existing right of way.

Hmmmm.... Having lived in the DTC a while ago and having lived in the northern suburbs most recently I would like to point out some items that seem overlooked.

Trader Joes goes where there is density, income and demographics. Denver just qualified recently. The southern suburbs also qualified. When I or my husband go down to the southern suburbs we are always shocked at the traffic density. There are tons more homes than there were 14 years ago when I lived down there. The roads are not more numerous or wider. Because of the larger number of people you get a more city feel, people in a hurry, more rudeness on the roads.

Compare to up north where when we moved here it was decidedly country/rural feeling. Not much in the way of stores, restaurants or retail. Now we've got just enough of all that and we still have lower traffic density because the area still has alot of places to build out. To me it feels more similar to the DTC area when I moved there over 20 years ago.

Eventually the north will be built out more with more stores and retail. We still have farmers fields being converted to homes or retail.

Interesting how people complain about traffic and more people but then turn around and whine about not having Trader Joes. Maybe my choice of places to live should only include places that don't fit the Trader Joes profile since I enjoy a more relaxed pace with some elbow room.
