I'm getting ready to move to Denver...I was wondering if anyone knew of the best place to maybe move to outside of denver but had easy commute to work in Denver. I'm thinking of maybe the Englewood area to work...waiting to hear back from some dealerships... Anyways, I love snowboarding so i would rather be out to the west of the metro area if possible...but have an easy commute to work. I grew up in a small town, so if any of those areas are pretty good places to live, thats ok. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks....

Well, if you want to be out west of Denver you could try Lakewood or Golden. Lakewood would be more of an older suburb -- not a small town. Golden's a suburb too, but it feels more like an independent town -- it would also be more expensive. Both are reasonably easy commutes to Denver.

I grew up on the west side, Lakewood, Wheatridge. That was the best. Remember though, the snow is usually deeper on the west side, and commuting in that is a nightmare.

The snow on the west side is't that much of a big deal as long as you stay out of the foothills. If Denver got four inches, then Lakewood might get six inches. As long as you have good tires, drive slower, and anticipate, you won't have any problems driving in the winter in one side of town as compared to the other.

Get a 4-Wheel Drive Vehicle, and you can live in the foothills. You don't have to have one, but it helps. If you don't live here, you have not experienced the beauty of it.. Our temperature is only 5 degrees higher or lower than Denver. We get the same amount of snow as Lakewood or Littleton....but......we have hiking, horseback riding, close up views of the mountains, gorgeous scenery. With the new lite rail 10 minutes away, we can be in Denver in 15 minutes. If you drive it, it's only 1/2 hour. You can hike Mt. Falcon, or Pence Park. Choices! You will see elk and deer grazing in pastures, you can hear chickens and roosters in the morning, and an occasional donkey baying at night! Small Town Living at it's best. We have fantastic schools, Parmalee Elementary feeds into Conifer or Evergreen High Schools. Restaurants are close and SW Plaza is 20 minutes away.....If you forget that loaf of bread, you can get one at the Kittredge General Store, 8 minutes away.
