Hi,

The cost varies for filing suit in small claims. I think it's $20-ish for under $500 and $40-ish for over $500.

In any civil case, you (nor any interested party) cannot serve a person being brought into the suit.

Read this: http://www.denvergov.org/Portals/203...6-08%20CBA.doc

And this: Colorado State Judicial Branch - The page cannot be found (http://www.courts.state.co.us/chs/court/forms/smallclaims/JDF248.doc - broken link)

Also, you should know that some of these rules vary by county, so you need to get ahold of your county court clerk to make sure there are no variances. The handbook I reference here is for Denver County.

I am wanting to persue an unpaid bonus from my former employer. The amount is 2500.00, is this amount too high or too low for small claims court?

A good link to follow (in addition to the ones wanttomveeast provided above) to find official answers to your questions about small claims court is Self Help Center and Approved Colorado Legal Forms

Self Help Center and Approved Colorado Legal Forms

While by law the court cannot give legal advice, there is a considerable amount of information available to assist the citizen in filing civil claims.

Denver County Court Magistrate Alan Bucholtz has written a Small Claims Handbook: Guide for Filing, Answering, Proving and Defending a Small Claims Court Case to provide further clarification about the terminology, forms required and how to prove or defend a case in the Denver County Court. The handbook can be used as a reference in addition to the State document entitled Instructions for Filing a Small Claims Case, which is available at small claims clerk’s offices throughout the state or from the link above.

The court also sponsors Free Legal Clinics on a monthly basis to assist individuals with the filing and collection of small claims cases.
Additional filing information for Denver County Court civil cases can be found here.

The Colorado State Judicial Self Help Center has hundreds of printable legal forms approved for use in Colorado State Courts. There are also numerous informational pamphlets to answer many of your questions as well.

biggmalo. Check your county. Small claims in Denver is $2,500 limit. If you are in Colo., it should be that same amt. no matter the county, but you need to check the county for procedures.
