I was also very concerned about safety when I had short notice I was moving to the Denver area.

I lived at Creekside at Highlands Ranch and it was great. It's just across the HR golf club from very high end homes. It's a very safe area and I took walks alone at night all the time. The apartments are a gated community with gates that actually work! (except when there's a lot of snow)

There are also several nice places in Lone Tree -- The Crest, AMLI Park Meadows, and Alexan.

Do any of these apartment communities offer views of the Rockies if on the top floor?

I had a friend who lived in the apartment complex by the REI station...across 15th (I think) from My Brother's Bar. It seemed pretty nice actually, but I not sure about the rates. I certainly don't consider that area unsafe.

jkman1, my apartment in Creekside at Highlands Ranch has a great view of the mountains. The ones in Lone Tree probably wouldn't have as nice views.
