Maybe you should have started with the 48oz margarita, that always seems to make everything taste better there! I agree that the service is usually just OK when we go there. The salsa is really hot which I like, and the rellenos and green chili are very good. As for sloppy, I can see what you're talking about, though that seems to be somewhat of a trend with a lot of places. Benny's is the worst offender for sloppy.

huh. I'll try them again. Sometimes I'm so bad about that. One bad experience and I'm gone!

La Sandia. Northfield? I've never really gotten into them much. What's your fav dish there? Maybe I need to give them another try. The owner also owns the spot downtown, Tamayo and Zengo (haven't tried them yet). I used to LOVE Tamayo's chile relleno, but they changed the recipe and it's not the same.
I get my bum into Rio at least twice a week. Their heuvos rancheros does it for me

I mean if a genie appears and asks me to choose between rio's rancheros and oksana fedorova, you know what I'll pick

We should plan a meet there, sometime. La Sandia is the one by Park Meadows mall. They have pretty good stuff and their salsa is terrific.

There must be more than one La Sandia? We've been to the one at Stapleton. I wonder if their dishes are different tasting?

I can't eat Rio that much. I try to watch what I eat and in that place I won't make the right choice. Their chicken flautas are YUM.

oh and if you are downtown and want to meet for a quick lunch, just give me a PM shout here and I can go!

I'm the same way - too many places out there to keep going back to ones that weren't good. La Loma is good, and it's close, but nothing spectacular. I'm still looking for that.

Never heard anyone that especially likes the Rio food, just their margs! I always thought it was decent though.

My husband HATES the Rio. He grew up eating Puerto Rican food so you'd think he would like all of the black beans and rice they have but noooo. He hates the service/atmosphere. I usually go with work buddies.

Up north, we tried La Fogata twice. The first time it was eh. The second time it was awesome!!!!!! Their original margs are sweet, not doused in sweet and sour which I absolutely hate. Fresh black beans and it looked like hand rolled flautas. Could be wrong on that but man they were good. Maybe it's one of those things where you have to order the right thing.

I know La Fogata has many locations. My husband says one by his work is just so-so compared to what we had up north.

Wow; there is a TON more Mexican food joints in Denver than just these so if this is your barometer... then ya Mexican food is crap here.
