It really depends on the individual furniture at IKEA. I have a large, open shelf (has 20 sort of "cubbies" in it) that I've had for 12 years. It's very sturdy and has been moved twice, once from CA to here. We had IKEA coffee/end tables that were great, very sturdy, but replaced them recently, but not because they were falling apart. We had a large entertainment unit for the TV that looked great, but it was particle board/put it together type furniture that barely made one move in CA, then when we gave it away before moving to CO, it collapsed into a heap just outside our front door and ended up in the dumpster. I think most of their furniture is fine other than the dressers/entertainment unit type stuff that comes in a million pieces.

Yay! Seeing how fast it was progressing I was guessing it will open up sooner. I actually need a few items and was waiting out for it to open.

What is the big deal with this store? I don't get it. I have never been in one but people I know are treating it as if it is the second coming. The store and the sign are an eye sore for the south part of metro Denver. As if the building wasn't big enough they had to put up a huge obnoxious sign.

Never been to one either, i guess that's once of the reasons many look forward to it. Many people I know love it. They have really cool designs (i.e. European style?) that are not available in other stores and they ~should~ have good pricing as well.

The big deal is it isn't available here, so people get all worked up about it. It's like Coors beer used to be in the east, when it wasn't available there: a mediocre product in demand because of its scarcity and cult-appeal.

I moved here from an area where there were several Ikeas (and Trader Joes). Ikea has some nice-looking stuff, but the construction of much of it is light weight. Their stuff works fine in a no-touch living room, but in a kids'-zone, don't expect it to last.

So folks will be able to drive to IKEA on $4/gal gas to get taxed on cheap junk made overseas to furnish their rental or a home that is worth less than it was a few years ago, but they are happy and uber-excited because it's IKEA and not some other company that sells cheap stuff made overseas.

Am I missing something?

The only good thing that ever came from Sweden are cars, airplanes, dirt bikes, chainsaws, and the Bikini Team.
