They aren't planning on opening this summer. You'll start seeing signs of construction in April.

Good information. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

9NEWS.com | Denver | Colorado's Online News Leader | IKEA announces local store will open in fall 2011

I'll believe it when I see it.

I saw that in the Denver Post. Not sure I can wait another 18 months. Might be easier just to drive to Utah in a U-Haul

I don't get the fascination with Ikea. In my experience, having lived near several Ikea stores for many years, while the stuff looks nice, it's mostly flimsy and overpriced.

Hard to beat 20 bucks for a coffee table, 40 bucks for an entertainment center, etc. Not the best constructed stuff, but big selection, fairly modern style, and cheap prices are nice. They also have decent very cheap lunch as well, on par with Costco's food counter at a cost to food ratio

I live 5 minutes away from Burbank Ikea now, and I was so sad when I learned that I wouldn't have an Ikea once I moved. Happy to hear one is on the way though.

In addition to the cheap (but yes flimsy) furniture, Ikea has lots of great buys. I have a soft spot for the kitchenware, which I will be stocking up on prior to my move. ; )

Not sure about your experiences, I've purchased many pieces over the years, while I do agree they don't look like hand-crafted pieces costing 10x more, they are pretty sturdy when assembled competently. I've actually had to help out some friends who say their ikea stuff falls apart by re-assembling (especially since they admit they forgot a few bolts) and they are surprised that they are still using the furniture after a decade, considering ikea stuff is meant to be transitional unless you are Scandinavian.

Personal experience, it is cheaper to just ship it. Yes the shipping was almost as much as the shelves we had to have BUT it included two guys delivering who would put the boxes in whatever room you wanted (including up or downstairs) so not too bad. When I priced out a U-Haul, gas and overnight accomidations to Utah, it was much more.
Glad there will be one closer SOON.
