I got a job in Deer Creek (southwest littleton) and I'll be moving to the area in Jan. with my 15 y.o. cocker spaniel max.

First off...yes I'm from Michigan...like most of the movers coming in. I think I even saw someone with the username Oberon...which is the best beer in the world! (I'm from Kalamazoo).

I've been jumping around the country for the last couple years b/c I'm in a rotational engineering job (Cape Canaveral, FL to Scranton, Pa and now to Denver.) Hopefully this great city will be my last stop...I am a little nervous about moving during this financial times, but I would rather be in Denver than Scranton if it really hits the fan.

So far from searching the forums (awesome job locals, huge help for new people like me) the areas that sound pretty good would be Littleton, Wash Park area, or Highlands Ranch. I've also heard good things about the public transportation...so I might give that a try (single guy would love to go downtown and meet a nice single woman) Would anyone be able to give me a compare and contrast or recommendations of those areas?

I'm also considering buying a condo..I've never owned property before (when you move every 1 to 1.5 years it can be hard.) I really dont know the market though...I cant afford anything over 150k (i think, ha, yeah I'm new at this stuff)

Lastly, I dont know anyone! Yikes!...I'm a fairly active person, and I've heard good things about the friendly Denver culture...but I'm starting over AGAIN...Ha. I should start getting use to this..but nope.

Any advice about the area, being a potential first time home/condo owner, or a good area to meet a lovely lady (I hear the ratio isn't that great for guys)

Thanks!

- Mike

Dude, best to rent a year or two, especially if you're gonna rotate out again.

Tons of lovely ladies in Denver.

Many of us advise living on/near a light rail line (aka RTD), see the info in the index on car-less living.

Can't quite see a single guy living in Highlands Ranch, a suburb best known for families, not singles. If job is nearby that's a different story.

I'd suggest those area close in to the city center, near to LoDo but not right in there. Lots of threads here on that, search on LODO.

Curious about this rotational job, from Cape Canaveral to Scranton to Denver, what sort of company is that?

s/Mike

Hey thanks guy also named Mike. That Highlands Ranch info was just the kinda info I was looking for.

It's a rotational position, but without a defined path for a defense contractor.

I'm in my last required move, so hopefully this will be my last stop as I'm sick of moving..

I'll probably rent for a year, but I was curious if anyone has dove into the condo market.

Look for condos to rent in the SW Littleton area, preferably first floor for the dog. I tell first time buyers that if they are not planning on staying for 5 years don't buy.

Are there exceptions? Sure, does your employer pay relo costs? Would they buy your property at fair market value? Those answers could change things.

There are some cheap foreclosures in Littleton that would be almost cheaper than renting. Live in there a year or two. Decide to move sell it. Decide to stay rent it and buy another place.

City Selection

Lots of outsider stuff to do in Deer Creek Canyon. Some great road biking. And mountain bike trails too!

I visited the area in September and looked at a Condo in Highlands? (Area right across intestate from LoDo). It had an AWESOME view of Denver, high ceilings, wood floors, two bedrooms, and a loft. It cost about $415K. So then I went to look at apartment complexes.

My sister is an engineer as well and she received a job here. We only been here for about 2 weeks and live in the Littleton area. Although, we said that we are staying here I would recommend that you rent first prior to buying any property in Colorado.
