Does anyone have any recommendations for a good German restaurant in the Denver metro area? So far I've heard Westfalen Hof in Golden is good, but that's kind of far. I know of a decent one in a strip mall in Aurora on 6th Ave., I believe, near 225. Forgot the name.

You are referring to Helga's which was located in the Hoffman Height Shopping Center, on Peoria and 6th. It has moved to near the Aurora Mall.

Cafe Berlin on 14th and Court in Downtown Denver. I've been there twice and thought it was pretty good. http://www.cafeberlindenver.com/

Andrea's in Lyons. A bit of a drive, but fun if you have the time.

There was a place, a deli, by the DMV in Lakewood that was very good.

Acutally, I think it was near the Jefferson County Motor Vehicle on 20th and Wadsworth right here (by "C" on the map)! Good German Deli! They'd served good schnitzel, homemade bread, gravy, just stick-to-your-ribs food... piping hot! Then when I was half-way done, this St. Pauly Girl-type lady came back over to me and said, "Vood jough liecht some moore? Here! You eat! You're a growing boy!"

And she'd pile some more on my plate!

Yes, that's it. I thought they had great food, and at least on the inside, it looked fairly authentic/German. Thanks!

Another vote for Cafe Berlin. My husband and I have eaten there for years. I miss their old locale on 17th, but the downtown one works as the food and service are very good. I also love the sweet owner. She's always there. Kessler Ripchen (smoked pork chop) is what I always get. With some Gewurtztraminer (sp.?) wine. yummmm.

Thanks for another vote! The restaurant in Golden sounds good, but I tend to stay in the city, so maybe we'll try this one. The one in Aurora mentioned above had really good food and services as well. I lived in Germany for 3 years, so I know my schnitzels and biers!

Love your talent at giving us the tone and pronounciation of the conversation with your St. Pauly Girl!

Cafe Berlin gets my vote!
