Hi,
me and my partner are considering moving to Colorado. He is looking at a position at UColorado at Boulder and I am looking for a job for myself.

I am completing my MS in Information Systems this spring. I was wondering how is the IT job market for a person with experience in data/systems analysis, database management, SAP, SQL, Access and the like. I also have some background in programming but don't see myself as a developer.

Can you give some info about companies that would have suitable positions and what is the best way to start searching?

Also, where are such companies located (Denver, Boulder, Longmont, etc.) and is it possible to live in Boulder and commute. Any info would be extremely helpful. Thank you!

Boulder & Interlocken in Broomfield are your best bets. Downtown if you had to and stay away from the Denver Tech Center, unless you're into torture...

Please elaborate. My husband and brother are also into IT, so they're wondering about the Denver Tech Center. Torture as in. . . .

torture defined as a daily commute from/near Boulder to DTC.

Boulder is NW of Denver along I-36 heavy traffic, then going around the heart of Denver, thru to the largest concentration of offices/workers in the area...DTC is SE of Denver.

I try to find nice areas for my clients to live in that is relatively close to work. I do not want my clients unhappy in their new place b/c their commute is h e double toothpicks. happy people refer new business to me.

Thanks for the clarification. Based on the first post, the commute from Boulder to DTC would definitely be a bit much. I misread your response to mean that working at DTC itself would be torture. I thought, surely there must be a few businesses within such a large area that are desirable.

My experience has been that the IT job market is currently very favorable from the standpoint of a job-seeker.

As for companies, the Boulder area has a large cluster of technology companies. There are a fair number in Boulder proper (mostly smaller companies in town with a few bigger ones a little outside city limits), as well as a cluster up in Longmont, and the largest cluster is going to be around the Interlocken Office Park in Broomfield right off Hwy 36. I doubt you'd have any need to stray much further than that.

I agree with the above, I am a recruiter for a large consultancy as well. Please PM me if you want to talk about this further and want some advice. The market is definitely rebounding but I'd look at living in Central Denver or the Broomfield-Boulder corridor.

Is the Denver Tech Center so named because it has a lot of IT jobs, or is that some name from the dotcom boom that stuck after the bust?
