I would like to somehow get a good view of the city, ideally from on top of a tall building. Does anyone know any buildings that are open to the public and offer great views?

Thanks!

I've always wondered that too. Try booking a room at the Hyatt and somehow getting on the roof. Worth a shot!

There is a bar on the 27th floor of the Hyatt, not the top but close enough. You won't need to rent a room to shoot some pics and just tell the hostess you want to look at the view and don't need a table. Also, the rotunda at the State Capitol is gret for shots. Some others, the view from the Denver Art Museum or the Central Public Library. Depending on what time of year you are hear, the observation tower at Six Flaggs is very cool, but you have to pay admission to the park. Park views - City Park just behind the Museum of Nature and Science, Ruby Park, Barnum Park, Highlands and walking on the Colfax viaduct, the pedestrian side of course. None of our big three have observation decks open to the public but I would recommend parking garages, like the one at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. Hope this helps!

The parking garage at 15th and Tremont in downtown is my favorite.

I know you didn't ask but for interiors downtown, you need to check out the Brown Palace, Basillica of the Immaculate Conception, The Equitable building on 17th Street, the Cruise Room at the Oxford, the inside and out of the Denver Art Museum - the Daniel Libeskind's extension and one additional view area I forgot to mention is the roof of the Museum of Contemporary Art in LoDo and the three bridges in the Central Platt Valley. I will post some pics this week for you of the area. Denver has retained many of it's historic architectual gems, but not sure if you have been here before or not to know this.
