I've done some research, but have some questions.

First, I'm moving from Texas to Colorado about March 1. My car registration sticker has to be renewed in January and inspection in February. My job requires i have a license and proof of insurance to work. Over here in Texas the license renewal costs about 60-70 dollars and inspections run about 10-14. What should i expect in Colorado? How long could i drive my car with Texas licenses? I really just want to do everything right away, and have Colorado plated within a month if possible. Any websites that may offer me help as well?

Thanks in advance, this site has helped me in more ways than i can count.

I'm moving to Lakewood, CO

You have up to 90 days to get your car registered and plated in Colorado.

Get ready for sticker shock. Colorado charges a personal property tax as part of their registration fee - based on the taxable value of your vehicle. I remember it cost me $233 to buy plates and register a new car in 1997.

Additionally, the emissions inspection will run you $25 every two years.

Wow! Would that be what i have to pay yearly as well? The $25 every two years doesn't sound too bad. I also heard about the state income tax. How would that affect me as a renter of an apartment initially?

It all depends on what the taxable vehicle of your car is. Keep in mind that with depreciation, that amount goes down every year.

The state income tax is a flat 4.63% of your Federal taxable income.

As an apartment renter, the property tax will be included in your rent.
