Live in Chicagoland. 30 miles north of Chicago. 7 million people witih in a 50 mile radius. I see them all the time. They do attack small animals. No dought. Their was incedent, 7 miles from me. One came in the back yard of a house. He literally tried to cary off a small child. He started screaming. His mom scared it off. Child was hurt. So I think anything smaller than them. Should watch out.

They're probably digging under the fences. Maybe everyone should keep an eye on their dogs. Sorry but if coyotes were getting through fences in my neighborhood my dogs would never be outside unsupervised. I feel very badly about the dogs but I personally think you should have to live with it. Do you want them killed?

I echo this sentiment... It's sad really the loss of the pets; however, everyone knew where they were moving too and the risk of existing wildlife in Colorado. My realtor told me to beware of coyotes and watch my pets when I moved, but it's a fact of life of where I decided to settle down. The only person I'd have to blame if they took one of my pets would be myself for leaving them alone outside unsupervised.

Correction - the meeting at the Harvey Park Rec. Ctr. re. the coyotes in the neighborhood will be Aug. 24th at 6 p.m. Please attend if you are in the neighborhood and have witnessed the coyotes, been injuried by or had a pet injuried or killed by them. Thank you!

There will be a neighborhood meeting Aug. 24th at 7:00 p.m. at the Harvey Park rec. center with the City Wildlife Ecologist but I'm pretty sure she will tell us just what's on the pamplet they've been sending out to everyone that contacts them - they won't do anything about them and when their food source runs out (our pets I take it since there in no natural prey in our neighborhood) they will leave. Now if it were a person or dog doing this I'm sure there would be immediate action but since they are wild animals we just have to live with it? I think it's a ridiculous policy, we need to look at changing. There are at least 2 packs with as many as 10 in each living in a residential neighborhood and we just have to live with it? Give me a break![/quote]

We are considering a job in Denver and although I knew coyotes were there (they are here in the Dallas suburbs as well, though not feared - haven't heard of any incidents with humans here), just looking for more info.
Coyotes live in the timber surrounding my home in Illinois. As long as I don't bother them they don't bother me and I don't have any animals besides the hound, I don't leave trash out in the open and I generally don't go outside after the Moon rises or before the Moon lowers so no chance of running into a Coyote.

My folks live in Parker and are very careful about leaving their little Jack Russell Terrier only in the backyard. Nothing but open land in their backyard and they hear Coyotes yelp every night.
