Headline news today about coyotes in Denver neighborhoods and an increase in "incidents" between coyotes and humans as well as pets. Just curious how much residents fear coyotes in their neighborhoods (please give an idea about where you live (i.e., very urban, very close to foothills, etc.) to clarify. Thanks so much. We are considering a job in Denver and although I knew coyotes were there (they are here in the Dallas suburbs as well, though not feared - haven't heard of any incidents with humans here), just looking for more info.

I've seen them in my neighborhood (Denver - Indian Creek) but I'm not afraid of them.

Huckleberry - I know it's just your opinion, but what size of kid do you think they would grab? (i.e., less than 50 lbs?)

There are quite a few in my neighborhood. In fact, a couple of months ago, we saw one trotting along the sidewalk in front of our house on his way back to the wooded area across the the street. I have no concerns about them at all.

I live a ways north of Denver (off I-25) and I hear them howling/yelping often, but I'm not concerned about them at all. But, then, I don't have any kids or small dogs ... just two 75-pound dogs that are taller than your average coyote.

There have been a lot of "encounters" in recent months, but I believe they're working on controlling the population. It's been a big problem in the Broomfield area as well. A couple people were bitten in different incidences, but no serious injuries.

I wouldn't let the coyote thing dissuade you from moving here. If anything, you should be more concerned about prairie dogs infected with the black plague.

The coyote thing is mostly paranoia in my opinion. Normally they don't run in packs in the daytime, only at night, and if you see a stray one in the day they would only be aggressive if you were aggressive or startled them. I have lived in Colorado, in and out of the city, since 1971.

I know they're here, b/c we hear them howling, especially at the police sirens. I did see one wandering around the open space a few blocks from my house once, but that's the only sighting in my hood in 20 years. I have seen them a few other times, again on open land.

I live about 30 miles south of Denver (Castle Rock), I hear them howling all the time and have seen a few while walking my dogs in the early morning hours. They always run off when they see us. I did see one the other afternoon while at the Glen Meadow Farm open space with my dogs as well.
