My wife and I are relocating to the Denver area. I will mostly be based out of my home however I will be going to an office periodically in Broomfield.
We were initially thinking living of around flatirons crossing. We were planning on just renting an apt for a few months initially so we're not rushed into buying a house.
We like to hike and love the sun and outdoors and my wife loves to swim.
She's a freelance sign language interpreter so we were thinking somewhere between Denver and Boulder as often there's alot of work for her at the colleges.
We have a smaller black lab who loves to hike with us and run and retrieve balls.
We are both just now in our 30's

We'd love any input on areas to live or apts or home rentals from locals.

I am no fan of Denver, even though I grow up there (many years ago). It's just too big. If, however, you must live in the Denver area, I recommend Golden. North and South Table Mountains physically separate Golden proper somewhat from the rest of metro Denver. It still has a small town feel. Like all of Colorado, the real estate is overpriced. There are some rental properties in Golden. If I had to return to the Denver area, God forbid, Golden would be at the top of my list. (And, yes, I did live there for a short period many years ago, too.)

There are a number of rentals near Flatiron Crossing (known to the natives as Flatirons). I have no idea of the pet policies at these places. Look for "Superior" in the addresses if you are on craigslist, etc. You would be located near CU-Boulder and Front Range Community College, and close to your office in Broomfield. There are also rentals in Broomfield proper. Westminster is also within a reasonable drive to Boulder and Broomfield, and seems to have quite a few apt. buildings.

Golden is a bit far for Broomfield/Boulder, but very nice.

A lot of rentals in and around Denver seem to be quite pet-friendly. You may have to pay an additional pet rent but the amounts vary. There are some nice complexes near the Mall - try searching on forrent.com in Northwest Denver or allapartments.com - and there is a large new sports centre up there too with several walking/biking/running paths.

When we first moved to the area last summer, we lived in a great complex called the Horizons at Rock Creek in Superior. It's right near the Flatirons Crossing Mall. They do allow pets there. There's a nice fitness center and the grounds are well kept. We then bought a house in nearby Louisville. We love the area and you will too.
