So I'm moving to the Denver where I pretty much know no one in the area. I've been debating whether to live alone or with roommates. Currently I'm looking at some of the more urban neighborhoods like City Park, Capitol Hill, Baker, etc.

I thought that living with roommates my age (26) would be a good idea because I would at least be around some people initially. People I could at least just hang out with when we were both at home. I also thought it would be cheaper.

Upon researching on craigslist with apartments and houses in those neighborhoods however, I've actually found it seemingly cheaper to live alone in a studio or one bedroom than with roommates! What's the deal with that?

What do you guys think? I mean, I guess everyone is different. Living alone can be pretty miserable though when you don't know anyone starting off in a new place. Quite a dilemma for me...

While I'm not living in Denver anymore, I did just move am living with a roommate. Mine was out of necessity for lower rent but I only know one person besides her in the area so it is nice to have someone to talk to, to go out with, and to have just general human contact with...haha.
It doesn't make sense to me why splitting a 2 br with someone would be more expensive than having a studio or 1 br on your own (it almost never usually is). I would think that in Denver though, there might just not be a lot of roommates available because the housing is so cheap in comparison to other cities around the country. In DC where I'm currently living, housing is so expensive that it pretty much seems to be a rule that if you're under at least 25 you're living with people. It's the only way a lot of people can afford to live here.
