Hey all- my husband got asked to move to Denver 2 weeks ago and now he is there trying to find us a house. We currently live in a small city, mostly farming community. I really am hoping you all have something like that near Denver somewhere. I have 3 children 2 in elementary and 1 in Jr High. Please help me find areas that are safe, neighbors can look out their window and see in yours is not what i want. I have never been to Colorado and am moving very soon, please HELP.

There are farm towns here, but they are well to the east of Denver and would be a very long drive. There are a few areas that might be passable by your description and Elizabeth might be one of that works if his job is on the south end of Denver in the area called the Denver Tech Center. What we usually recommend is that people rent here for a year to learn the area before buying a home.

They don't get mentioned a lot, but depending on where you work some of the small farming communities east of town on I-70 such as Bennett, Strasburg and Byers might work as well. They are a straight shot into downtown on I-70 (which though can be a parking lot during rush hour) but they are very small and should fit your criteria in a town.

We don't know where in Denver work is, or anything else about what you like and what you don't.

Unless you would like him gone for another 1.5 hours, i'd suggest the very nice city of Denver or a close in suburb.

Most windows are covered.

If he enjoys commuting then there are plenty of farm like communities farther out. If you are wealthy you can also live close on 1-2 acres of land and not have to see neighbors' mansions. Is work downtown?

You need to give more information. Where's work? Are you looking to buy or rent? How much are you willing to spend for rent or purchase? How long does your husband want to spend commuting? You have to remember, you "aren't in Kansas anymore". Denver isn't a farming community, it's a large metropolitan city of over 2.2 million people. Every large city has rural/farming types of towns but it always boils down to how far out of town you want to live. More information would allow members to give you better advice.

There are some "farming" type communities north of Denver in the sense that they have a more rural lifestyle and that are within commuting distance to work. One of my coworkers actually moved from one of those areas and says it was a good place to live.

Ok i have found out he works in Englewood. We want to rent for the first while to get a better idea of the areas. We also will only rent a house no appts. I am willing to give up farm communities for less crowded towns. How is Cherry creek? I also heard that Conifer is ok? And no long commutes arent ideal.

Where in Englewood? Zip code or cross streets would help us help you.

Conifer would be at least an hour drive each way if he's in Englewood. Cherry Creek is fine, but very expensive (in fact, it is our most expensive zip code). Englewood is fine, and you may actually get quite a bit of property with some of the homes in that area. Other options are Lakewood, Littleton, and South Denver (Wash Park or Bonnie Brae - though more expensive, are fantastic and within a 20 minute drive to Englewood).

Enjoy your move - Denver is so great!
