Hey there, Denver residents. I've never been to Colorado before. I always thought that Colorado is like Texas. And I always thought that Denver is like Dallas.

It turns out that I have tickets to see U2 in concert this coming June at Invesco Field at Mile High.

I'm also staying at the Hotel VQ, which is a stone's throw away from the stadium.

This will be my very first trip to Colorado, and I know very little about the city of Denver.

Is Invesco Field located in a bad neighborhood?

Denver is a big city, so I'm sure it has its share of sketchy areas. Just like Dallas has problems in its southern parts.

What can you Denver residents tell me about the area around Invesco Field?

Is "bad" good? or undesirable?

Denver is not as big as Dallas.

The stadium, the area and the hotel are fine. Unless, you are looking for trouble, then I am sure you can find some.

The Jefferson Park neighborhood is perfectly fine and safe. As far as I'm concerned, there are no bad parts of Denver.

Oh, and Colorado is not like Texas, and Denver is not like Dallas.

Careful there! As a Texan (I presume you are a Texan), you of all people should be able to appreciate pride in one's State!

More of a sea of parking lots than a neighborhood, but my brother and I walked around near there at night and never felt the need to dish out any kung-fu...uh...I mean, if we *knew* any kung-fu.

^I'm a transplant living in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I'm originally from Jersey.

I don't get to travel much, so I'm trying to glean some info from Denver natives.

It's not too bad -- in fact nowhere in Denver is too bad. The area around and north your hotel is called Jefferson Park and it's actually taken a turn for the better in the last few years -- it's turning into a pretty nice neighborhood after years of neglect. South of Colfax, you can get into some pretty crummy areas with housing projects intermixed with some ugly industry, but the stadium is actually separated from Colfax by a pretty imposing viaduct, so I doubt you're going to be spending much time down that way. Federal, on the west side of the stadium, is bad in spots, but again, the trouble generally starts on the south side of Colfax. Going west of Federal is Sloan's Lake park area which is actually pretty good.

So, I'd say anywhere north of Colfax around the stadium will be either good or at least improving. I doubt you'll find too much problem around there.

I've been to many, many games at Invesco and the old Mile High Stadium. Never had any problems in that area at all, other than getting out of the stadium after a game! lol

You should be fine!

Seems like a perfectly fine area to me. And to me, the culture, people, landscape, and climate of Dallas are a world different than Colorado and Denver. Not saying Dallas is bad, just very different. Although people are generally friendly in both cities.

I forgot to mention that I'm going to have a rental car.

What's the driving situation like in the city of Denver and its suburbs (Aurora, Littleton, Lakewood, Eaglewood, etc.)?

When and where does it usually get all congested?
