Our King Soopers is fine. It's where the middle class shops, and I've been in dozens of grocery stores just like it all around the country. Decent produce, meats, and forty different brands of peanut butter. If you want it, it's probably there. Safeway is turning into a pit. I don't know what that's about. Maybe something to do with the merger?

I will have to do that next time I run out of milk. I subscribe to Royal Crest, which is pretty good. I would love to see raw milk available in Colorado, which tastes amazing, but doesn't last very long before spoiling, for obvious reasons.

I agree with denverian that the KS in Stapleton is horrible, but I'm not holding out hope that the new location is going to be much better. That's why I am thrilled that residents are working hard to build a food co-op in our community. Northeast Community Co-op Market - Home Page

Royalcrest is fabulous if a little spendy.

I have heard, although never been able to definitively confirm, that the Farmers Milk at Sprouts comes from Royal Crest and is just rebranded for retail sales.

But then I'd actually have to leave the house!

I rarely go into the Stapleton KS... and never do regular shopping there. It's just too crowded. As for the products and prices, I don't really have any issues. It's just annoying to go in there most of the time. If/when they open the Eastbridge KS, I think that will solve a lot of that problem.
The eastern US generally does have better grocery stores than most of the western US. I don't really know why that is but that has been my experience. You have Wegman's and Hannaford in the Northeast- just great stores with an interesting selection and variety with decent pricing. In WI have found Woodman's and Roundy's to have be better overall than anything in KC with no sales tax on grocery food items.

Here in California all of the new supermarkets are lighted with T8 lamps or LEDs. A new Safeway store here even reduces that farther but turning off 50% of the lights after 10PM. Thats when it gets a bit hard to see. Any darker then that and you would need a flashlight to find your way around the store. LOL.

Personally I like it. Fluorescent lights hurt my eyes. But I don't know why it's such a big deal. If they went back to bright fluorescent lights, I would just deal with it. I wouldn't stop shopping there just because of it.

We really like Soopers, especially coming from the south where it was walmart or bust.

People Of Walmart - Funny Pictures of People Shopping at Walmart : People Of Walmart

We frequent the Soopers at 9th and Corona typically, and used to go to the one in Glendale. We were not used to, and really enjoy being able to have such a wide selection of natural and organic products without having to go to a specialty retailer.

You didn't have a Kroger or a Harris Teeter where you were down south? They're the exact same thing (same company) as King Soopers.

Several years ago I can remembering listening to KOOL 105 and whoever was on the air that day had brought up not only the people of Walmart website but even had said there was a "people shopping at King Soopers" as well but on You Tube. Granted the whole video was shot at the King Soopers in Capitol Hill On 9th and Ogden ( yes "Queen Soopers" ) it was well..interesting to say the least. One scene I can remember is that of several hairy gay guys decked out in leather, smoking cigars and drinking beer in the parking lot while some of the King Soopers employees were outside screaming "WOOF" and "GRRRRRRRR" to those guys. Apparently Kroger and/or King Soopers weren't very happy about the video as within days they had the video yanked from You Tube. I have never seen it again.
