I am moving to the area in April. I have a job lined up in the Sable area of North Aurora, and was going to concentrate my search near there for housing (Colfax area), but was told by people that have lived there that is a really bad area. I know each person's idea of what a bad part of town is can differ greatly. So I 'm looking for your guy’s thoughts on the area or maybe some other good areas that would be about a max of 25 min commute to/from Sable. I'm looking at a budget around 600-800 if that helps any.

Thanks

The "badness" of that area is blown way out of proportion. Lower-middle class and diverse.

Use an apartment website to look for a place, then map the place's address using mapping software or a mapping website, and see if it takes 25 minutes or less to your work location.

And you can post addresses or cross-streets here and we'll be happy to tell you about the area.

The area people often accuse of being bad is along Colfax, more or less in the 10 block area that encompasses historic or original Aurora (originally called Fletcher) generally around Galena.

I know the area pretty well and you can find me at the Arc thrift store many Saturdays, the half price day, that is in the neighborhood.

North of Colfax to 25th is generally poorer and has more high density buildings. South of Colfax to about 6th ave from Yosemite all the way to 225 is medium poor with things getting a bit newer near the hospital to the east.

South of 6th near Havana on the west side is an enclave of African Americans. Further east towards the Auora mall the neighborhoods transition from 50's - 60's to 70's and 80's. The further southeast you go beyond that, the newer you are.

Without knowing your cross streets it is tough to give any real advice. In general terms you will be within a 15 minute car and 25 minute bus ride of actual Denver and 15 minutes in a car from real suburbia so you can take your pick and there will be plenty of options in your price range.

For anyone with a few minutes to kill this is an interesting read:

There is some nice apartments off of chambers.... and some more off of alameda that might be in your place range. Go to I-225 and the Parker area as well... I need to see the enclave of African Americans... think I need to take a field trip over by the Aurora Mall. I guess there are a little more of us than average by Delmar Park. Wenworth Apartment are nice in Aurora, Colorado, 80012
1 Bedroom$480 - $625 2 Bedrooms $664 - $800... I have a friend who lives there and I have never heard the neighbors through the walls.
