What is the realistic drive time from Orlando to Denver. What is the best and fastest route? I will be leaving early on a Wednesday and need to be there by 5:00 PM on Friday to pick up my kids at the airport. Will I make it?

It's a long drive with a lot of variables. You will really be pushing it to do what you want.

I've done this trip every possible reasonable way ...

Denver South to Amarillo, to Dallas, then over to Baton Rouge, through the FL panhandle, then across ...

or

Denver East on I-70, then any number of likely interstates heading southward ...

They'll all come in around 1800-1850 miles. A realistic average road speed for a single driver in good weather conditions has taken me around 35 hours of driving time.

You'll need to watch the weather forecasts up to the AM of your departure, and be flexible about the route you'll take. Storm fronts can give you hundreds of miles of driving in very heavy rain/poor visibility which reduce your road speed, and if you're departing soon, you can still encounter springtime snow/icy roads on the plains as well into Colorado.

Best route is FL Turnpike to I-75 to I-24 (Chattanooga) to I-57 (southern Illinois) to I-64 (Illinois) to I-70 (St Louis).

You can do it if you can put in 650 miles a day, 3 days in a row. And, you will need to have super early starts every day if your goal is DEN at 5pm. That pace for a day or two isn't bad, but 3 in a row might be a bit much. I drive Kansas City to Inverness, FL at least once a year and we do that in two days. Sometimes we drive through because we have a few drivers to share the driving - it takes around 21 hours.

If you aren't moving, you might want to look at flying and renting a car. If your car breaks down along the way and you have kids at the airport things could turn awful in a hurry. It would be good if you could have a buddy and then let them fly home from DEN. I drive KC to Denver a few times a month. 10 hours. Speed limit ups to 75 in Colorado and there isn't much to slow you down between KC and DEN except for snow.

Watch for lots of speed traps. Money is tight and tickets are quick revenue generators. I have noticed many more traps the last few months. Especially around Topeka KS and a few little towns between there and Denver.

Safe travels.
