I'll need a car when I move to Denver but I'm not a car guy and I don't have any mechanic friends in Denver who are knowledgeable and can tag along when I'm ready to buy.

I don't want to get ripped off and I'd rather go to a dealer and pay an extra $1000 for ease-of-mind rather than take my chances with private sellers on craigslist. Can anyone give me some names of reputable car dealers?

Any experiences with Rocky's or Stan's Auto in Westminster?

Hello,

We had very good luck and got a great deal on our used car at Automotive Avenues. Hope this helps!

Here's a thought. How about placing an ad on craigslist saying that you'll pay a competent mechanically minded person $100 to go with you to look at some vehicles?

Trustworthy car dealer.

That's a new oxymoron

You might end up paying more, but you could try going to a dealer and looking for something that is "certified pre-owned" because they sometimes come with a warranty. It might be worth a look, but it would also probably limit you to newer and more expensive used cars.

Thanks for the suggestions. I might try the craigslist suggestion but I tend to use craigslist as a last resort. Early 2000s Civic or Accord Coupe - trying to keep it cheap, but like I said, I don't know much and just need something reliable.

B.O.B.B.Y. I've looked at some VWs too and will probably consider a Jetta or maybe a Golf. Thanks for the tip on Rocky's.
