A job you want or a job you'll hate? Cuz there's work out there, for certain...but it may not leave you satisfied at the end of the day.

If you just need money, you can find a job out here. If you're looking for a career, better think well outside the box.

In my entire career I've never gotten full time job by networking. To me it seems a person's chance of getting a job through networking are exactly the same as applying for a job in the newspaper.

Guess it depends on profession. My first job in my career in the pre-internet days was found through a newspaper ad. Since then either networking or headhunters sent by people in my network have brought me into the eight positions I have held. I have applied for my share of job listings over the years found online and in the paper and I have never even been close to getting a job that way.

Interesting - most of my jobs, across eight companies over 15+ years, have been through contacts. Only one position was at a place where I didn't know anyone.

I swear people on this forum sometimes are so negative. Anyhow, the economy is mending. Will it take time, yes? I think this is a great time to move somewhere new. Especially when depending on your current situation (the OP really didn't elaborate much) but if you are in a job you can't stand, live in a place where you totally don't fit in, then do it! What's the worst that can happen? For me, I'd rather be on the streets than live and work where I've been at for the past seven years, what a hell hole! In fact, I regret NOT moving to Colorado sooner, I had a job offer in 2006, but thought it wasn't the right job for me....man do I regret that! Since that decision it's all gone down hill.

I love Colorado, always will!!!

Anyhow, good luck on your decision, it's not that bad here, it's probably better than a lot of places right now.

It is a lot harder to enjoy and appreciate Colorado with a job you hate...on the other hand, I do understand the sentiment.

It depends on what you do. My spouse has been getting cold calls for full-time tech jobs for the last few months, and so have his coworkers.

Give me a break. Anyone in IT who has their resume on Monster gets cold calls from recruiters. Most of it's bunk.

Understood, but he doesn't have his resume on Monster, Dice, or even Linkedin. He's fielding calls from partner companies looking to lure him away from his current employer, and the solicitations are for bona fide full-time positions, not short-term contract work. His coworkers are receiving the same sorts of calls. A very good friend, who contracts as an independent project manager, is busier than ever after a two-year lull.

This has been a very good year for my spouse's employer. District sales exceeded expectations, so bonuses were generous as were raises. The company stock is trending up, so stock option grants are actually worth something. They've landed several new and lucrative contracts, so the business outlook for the remainder of the year is positive. I'm cautiously optimistic that Denver is on the upswing in at least some sectors.
