Why is this so hard for you to believe? He really doesn't, and I hassle him specifically about Linkedin all them time! I have no reason whatsoever to lie.

My spouse is involved with enterprise IT, which brings him into contact with a lot of companies in the Denver metro. There is some aggressive poaching going on, and it kind of reminds me of the musical chairs of federal contracting. And, in that, perhaps you have a point about it still being hard to find work. You have to be in the game to stay in the game, and it's a relatively small group of people who do what my spouse does. Regardless, it's a welcome change! Without being specific, IT hiring is currently active in the following sectors: cable, data analysis, insurance, and energy. Do with that information what you will.

So am I ... and I haven't heard of any of this happening.

I seriously doubt this.

I edited my post to give you a few leads. All the players are located in the Denver metro. Go for it.

By the way... Are you independent? What type of IT do you do? Are you currently looking for work?

You're trying too hard to convince me of this claim of yours. I don't buy it. I didn't ask for any leads, nor am I interested.

To answer your other questions: I'm a Unix/Linux system admin. I'm not independent although occasionally I do consulting. I am not currently looking for work. Between my day job, consulting and other things I've got my hands full.

What info? You didn't say anything useful. All you said was: "hiring is currently active in the following sectors: cable, data analysis, insurance, and energy"

I thought you weren't interested!

I can specify that the energy company works with natural gas, the cable companies are two well-known big players, and the insurance and data analysis are branches of the same very large conglomerate. All have offices in the tech center. If you are aware of who is here in the DTC, these clues ought to be very useful. If not, well, I can't help you any further.

Unfortunately, none of the specific jobs my spouse has been contacted about are listed on the companies' career pages at this point.** They have all come unsolicited though network referrals and are absolutely real positions. Several are staff aug (energy), but most are direct hire. These positions are NOT direct end-user support, but fall under the umbrella of enterprise architecture.

This is all the information I can offer without compromising my spouse and his company. Sorry. Best regards...FC

**Edit: one of the cable companies has several IT-related positions listed on its career page, and the insurance/data analysis conglomerate has several listings for IT positions, including a few for full-time UNIX administrators.

If I didn't know better, I'd say you sound like you are a recruiter trying to make money.

Not at all (I'm a volunteer librarian, and bk, I was a marketing manager), but if you want to send some money my way for the fifteen minutes I spent searching the career pages and asking my spouse about the state of hiring at his company and clients, I'd be thrilled.

Seriously, though, I have no ulterior motive. I just read the business pages and pay close attention when my spouse talks about his day. Lots of our friends and neighbors also work in the DTC, and I listen when they talk about their work, too. As such, I'm in the position to know about a selection of IT jobs here in Denver, leading me to be cautiously optimistic about the future. That's it. Best regards...FC

Most people are. However keep in mind that the Great Depression's effect on the stock markets lasted for 25 years. During that period, there were advances and retreats in stocks, employment, and the economy, but pre-Depression levels were never breached during that 1/4 century period.
