Hi,

Is there any good public transportation? Do you have to have a car to get around the city?

thanks

Public transportation can be quite good depending on where you live and work in Denver. Denver has bus and light rail service. Some areas will be more convenient then others as far as living a car free lifestyle.

Using public transit is not only for those who do not own a car. It can allow one to one to use a bus or rail occasionally; to become less car dependent, not only car free but sometimes car less. At times public transit is a much better option, especially to congested and heavily traveled areas such as downtown and entertainment/sporting events.

Some of us must use public transit because of disability; some cannot afford a car; some are too young and some are too aged to drive safely. Even if you do not use public transit, it gives you the advantage by reducing traffic, so you can travel easier and safer as it removes drivers off the road--that should not drive. It gives your children and their friends to get around by themselves without you becoming a taxi service. It gives your older children, who drive, an option to travel safer, especially when they lack the maturity of judgment.

I have always owned a car and I understand the convenience and freedom that driving gives you. Yet, there is another freedom that I have learned when I use public transit. I do not have to worry about parking; I do not have to worry about damage or theft of my expensive car and my belongings, as my car is safely enclosed in my garage. I do not have to worry about the traffic or weather.

I can see and experience a city on my feet at a slower pace and when I am ready I can just grab the local bus or train and go home more relaxed. When I worked downtown Denver, the daily commute by bus was extremely relaxing and you would be surprised by the friendship of contacts you make with fellow commuters. I have lived in NYC and in Europe and this is the freedom you get from an extensive well run transit system. Denver, in parts, has this system and it just allows me to

Default Moving to Denver

I'm planning to move to Denver the first part of 2011 from Tulsa, OK and am considering selling my car. I've read several of these posts, but am having a hard time getting a clear picture of whether it's feasible. I've never used public transport before, mainly because we don't offer a user friendly option here. I'm planning to work and live in the downtown area, but I want to make sure that this is a doable situation before a say goodbye to my beloved vehicle. I am not a common forum poster, so I would appreciate any responses to my email - Jayha9906@yahoo.com Thanks in advance!!
