I know this has been discussed, but most of the posts are a few years old. My family and I are interested in moving out of the South, and Des Moines is high on our list. We plan to visit in the summer.

I am a teacher with three years of experience and a masters degree with a Louisiana teaching licence. I've looked, and I should be able to get an Iowa licence easily. I teach middle school English currently (7-12 certified).

I have read from previous posts from a few years ago that the market for teachers is competitive, but is it completely bleak? I know Des Moines is growing, so things can change. Also, I would not mind traveling a little outside of the city to work in a more rural district.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

A good source. Not all jobs are listed here. Going on school websites in the Des Moines area you will find other openings.

High School positions open:

My son teaches at a school in Iowa around the Omaha/Council Bluffs area. I would check into jobs around there as well.

I do have some additional information about some of these schools due to my job. PM me if there are particular schools you're interested in.

Great resource!

I compiled a Google Doc of links to all of the districts' employment pages. I did see some openings, especially for it only being April. My worry is that there will be 100+ applicants for each position.
