It's common in many states and there is 2 (among many) reasons:

1. A sense of entitlement by many people.

2. Obama and crowd doing a fairly good job of creating a class warfare division among people.

We also move around a lot nowadays and don't have the community roots that we had years ago.

Does anyone know what this person is talking about? I think they think they are in the political forum.

The more I think about it, people in Des Moines (and Iowa in general) are pretty shady. Sometimes we say we're going to the store when we really mean we're going to the store AND the Post Office. Unforgivable.

^^^

You are getting a bit strange lately trying to re-invoke arguments of statements I've made in the past.

Yes, I still do believe that "going to the store" is a huge umbrella term in Iowa.

Now, you're gonna get the entire forum going on a new tangent.

You must be really bored out in Van Buren County.

And Indiana, and California, and Nevada, and Illinois, and Florida, and Maine...and more I am sure, those are just places friends of mine are from that I asked about "going to the store." Not ONE person I asked thought the phrase was unusual and all said they used it themselves.

Jut sayin'

I don't think you understand the point I was making, I never said it was unusual.

I said it's used more in Iowa as an umbrella term meaning several things, which it is.

Reaching really, really hard for justification there. Pull any muscles? Honestly, how stupid can your comments get? Do you sit around at night trying to think of more and dumber things to post?

But, please don't stop. You are after all the main source of entertainment on this forum. I do think you'd get tired of being laughed at after a while, but if it trips your trigger stay with it.

As I recall, your first comment on the matter was something like "Iowans use old-fashioned phrases like 'I'm going to the store.'" Which was hilarious because people go to the store everywhere, and often tell people that they are going to the store. You made it sound like everyone outside of Iowa thinks it's something unmentionable like the people in The Village; "I'm going to the place that we don't speak of."

It wasn't until later that you stated that your problem with the phrase was its frequent use as an umbrella term.

Get used to it. He comes out with so much stupidity its hard for him to keep track of which pile of crap to look under when he's backtracking.
