Sounds promising indeed. I hope that the deal closes & that they can pull this off.
I wonder if a renovation would include the removal of the modern facade that was added onto the building long ago in another renovation project? The classic original facade had great lines.
Downtown Des Moines has a new & fresh look. Although long removed in many ways from some of it's original functions that included a role as the retail hub, looking on the brighter side of things, the area looks much cleaner.
My earliest memories included views of streets lined with dreary & soot-stained buildings.

I wish they could recover the old facade too but from my understanding, there is not much left. From a pretty reliable source I'm told that many of the façade details of the DM Register building were physically cut off the structure when the curtain wall went up. Some of these features were nearly irreplaceable, and could be prohibitively expensive to recreate in today's world without the costs skyrocketing. This is a shame and it makes you wonder what people were thinking at one point in time it was perfectly normal to permanently alter the architectural integrity like this.
